Makis

Hound Mix

Male

April 2021

17kgs

Zakynthos

Makis was spotted on the road near the shelter one morning. He was terribly thin and in very bad condition. He was covered in ticks and very weak. Makis has a big and funny character and is a very loving dog. He's a beautiful hound mix with lovely long ears! He has been in foster with a volunteer who has got him strong and much healthier than before! He gets on well with other dogs and is very playful. He was only 14 kilos when he came to the shelter, now he is 17 kilos! He would love a home where he can have all the walks, food and love he deserves!

He has tested positive for Leishmaniasis. Leish is a disease dogs contract through being bitten by a sandfly which only exists in Mediterranean countries. Leish is controlled by daily medication, with early detection and being aware of symptoms being key to ensure it can be kept under control, as well to treat any possible relapses later on in life. A dog with Leish can live totally normal and happy lives with the right treatment and knowledge. Zante Strays support all of our leish dog adopters and will always offer support and guidance for as long as you may need it.
